This is direct contradiction of the universal belief that more money accumulates when less money is spent. Still it is a practical truth practised by those who have amassed wealth. It is also a fully valid spiritual truth.
Any place in the world may have drought, but not India, the land of Spirit. Yet, India is often stricken by droughts and floods. I may extend my statement further in the same spirit that there can be drought anywhere, not in Tamil Nadu. India is a land of Spirit, Rishis, Tapasvis, Munis and Yogis. But all the sixty three canonised saints of Saivism and the twelve saints of Vaishnavism are yogis of the evolving Spirit in life, called the 'Psychic Being' by Sri Aurobindo.
Spiritually rain is grace. WATER is emotion. When the hearts are full of emotion, water supply will be in ever increasing abundance. Wherever there is a tract of rich water supply, one finds those people full of emotions in affectionate families. Here lies the Key or secret or the truth behind a permanent solution to water scarcity. Emotions are not made to order. How then can this truth be of any practical or concrete use in solving our problem?
Adoration is bhakti, devotion of a soul to the All-Souls. No God is immune from a call of adoration. It is fascinating as well as captivating. The young man who falls in love with a girl is said to adore the ground she walks on. Whether she is romantically or idealistically attached to him in loyalty, it is certain she is bitten by overwhelming waves of adoration. Is it possible to adore water? Yes, it is, when it has really become scarce. A retired Chief Justice, after a short spell of governship, was appointed as a Vice-Chancellor where students were known to be restive.
Attachment is physical, attention is vital, affection is mental and Love is spiritual. It is common perception that affectionate families are better off than their compeers where it is missing. Prayer of rain can bring down rain copiously. But attention to water can make the availability of water abundant and excels the power of prayer for rain. A lovely new carpet enjoys the attention it gets and calls those who walk on it to stop and admire it. The Divine Mother did so once, walking on a new carpet.
Madras has been rechristened as Chennai. When the emotions are to be released into action, an older name that enjoys our emotions will better serve. There are several grades of solutions each better than the other, but, all of them being transitory solutions should be resorted to each time it rears as a problem. There is a permanent solution which we can think of in several ways. When it appears, it may be by a method unknown to us so far. The mind incident on an issue has the character of undoing it.
For some time I have been writing in this column that one can invoke the Spirit in his own life, exercise his Silent Will for that purpose, address a prayer to God that is answered without fail, make Life respond, call the indwelling Spirit to act in mundane activities.
These things occur occasionally in everyone's life, but pass unnoticed. In the lives of those who believe it a way of life, such occurrences become commonplace for a while and become infrequent later. Below I would list many I have already mentioned and many more that I will be writing about in the future.
Man's physical work gives him skills. His vital work endows him with social skills of interpersonal relationships. Mental work offers understanding and skills of memory, thinking, judgement, etc. Values are spiritual skills. To employ values in a work is to render it spiritual. Every work of any description on earth has a value attached to it, maybe all the conceivable values. Loyalty, honesty, integrity, safety, the other man's point of view are the values generally known.
Om is the pranava mantra. Om is the sound that emanates from the transition from the Immutable Brahman to the Mutable Brahman, known as Akshara Brahman to Kshara Brahman, the Spirit to Nature. That plane is Cosmic Consciousness where the God is the Cosmic Self. When repeated as it should be, Om takes one to the Cosmic Consciousness. The right method is genuine inner seeking of God. Oral repetition or mental repetition without that inner Truth will not have that result. That genuine inner seeking is the trump in Spirituality.
Moving from Sakthi, Viryam, Deiva Prakriti to Faith can be said to be the method here. Sakthi is to do the work on hand. Viryam is to do the work with full interest. Deiva Prakriti is to raise our personal interest in the work to a higher interest. To bring to bear on the work the best professional skill will be Deiva Prakriti in practice. Put in simple words, a work must be done to the very best of our honest abilities leaving no stone unturned. In this there is no compromise. This power of Spirit is for those who work hard and with skill and intelligence.
