750. Magnificent Sari

Getting down from the plane and walking into the airport, someone found a sea of smiles greeting her and discovered her life magnificent. In the hundred previous trips she had passed through Frankfurt airport, this was not her experience. People turned around, looked at her and smiled. Some came to her and greeted her for her lovely appearance. She felt she was carried on by a vibration of universal love. She had read the spiritual experiences of Mother when Love descended on earth through Her.

749. Karna

Karna was the eldest of the Pandavas. He never knew it until Krishna told him the fact. On hearing it, he said that if Yudhisthira had known this fact, he would never sit on the throne. He was Suryaputra, born to Kunti, abandoned at birth, taken by a charioteer's wife and brought up. His one urge was to know who his mother was. He used to see a bright sun in his mind's eye. His social position was precarious. It was too much inner talent buried in a low social position. Kunti bore the child to a god. She bore all her children to various gods.

748. Spiritual Experiences

The guru initiates the disciple into the discipline. The disciple, by his own spiritual endeavour acquires the spiritual experience his guru already realised. The guru gives him the mantra for that purpose and it is his grace that presides over the life of the sishya. By virtue of one coming to her, the Divine Mother gives him the spiritual experiences directly without the disciple even asking for them. Often he may not know it. Spiritual experiences lead to spiritual realisations. Silence is a great realisation. Shanti is another.

747. The Golden Age

Old is gold is a universal phenomenon. It is essentially true, but not entirely true. No drop of the essence of the past is to be given up. It is gold.  Any idea, however great, is given to the people in the form suited to the times. And times change. With the changing times, the forms, the external forms become outmoded and become obstacles. They are called anachronisms. Running water keeps itself clean by its running. Stagnant water becomes impure. Our veneration of the past must not blind us to the fact of changing times.

746. A Positive Product

Every new scientific discovery begins as theory and ends as a PRODUCT. The Jnana of the Rishi comes to the population as values of life. The knowledge of science comes to the same population as usable products. From the Stone Age, Man has been creating such products. Maybe the very first product is the stone which he used as a tool. Computer and Internet may be the latest such tools. The tool becomes a product. The product is neutral. It is Man who gives a character to the product he uses.

745. Boston Brahmin

A Brahmin is one who worships the Brahman. The Brahman is called the Absolute in Europe. No attribute can be given to it, as it is featureless. Still, it is customary to call it Infinity and Eternity. Or sometimes it is called Silence or Peace. It is our tradition to say Silence is God or God is Peace. The Absolute Brahman is beyond even these exalted terms. It is seated in the hearts of men. He who realises that Brahman is a Jivanmukta. His is a noble calling. In favour of it, he often gives up life. He becomes a sannyasi.

744. Insupportable

At the age of fifteen, a Western youth read a book of Eastern religion. It was about Vedanta that speaks of the Spirit. The Transcendent Spirit was a complete reality to the young mind. It was a concrete Reality. At that tender age to the Mind that is fresh and open, it powerfully struck him that he must realise the Spirit, not realising that it was a goal attained only by the Vedic and Vedantic Rishis of the past. In later days in India a great many have realised that goal. It was impossible for one of fifteen years to conceive that he was setting his sights too high.

743. Ekalavya

Knowledge passes on from one to another by itself. Ekalavya was a hunter who desired to learn archery from Drona. As his direct instruction to a low caste hunter was not possible, Ekalavya made a statue of the venerable Acharya and learnt archery sitting in front of the statue. That made it possible to learn everything the Acharya knew. This is a phenomenon known to the ancients. Knowledge of one comes to another whose submission to him is total. What we know as Mind is our surface mind. This is limited, personal, finite and acts through memory and intellectuality.

742. The Role of a Sister

A Jewish proverb says that because God cannot be everywhere, He has created motherhood. A mother is the entire family and sometimes more than a family. A sister, especially, an elder sister, becomes the mother in many families. Children from such families are reluctant to go to a hostel or accept a transfer to another place. Those who have had affectionate mothers, Shaw says, seek no marriage, especially if they were brought up in an artistic environment. A lady at the age of 45 knew nothing but fear.

741. Men of Great Capacity

If we divide men into two categories of capacity and incapacity, capable men succeed and the incapable fail. Mother makes the incapable capable. This is a perennial theme with the devotees. Capable men succeed. They do not fail in life. When they come to Mother, they meet with far greater success than usual. Sometimes such men find themselves lifted to a higher level, as a retailer changes into a manufacturer. The opposite also is true but very rare. Capable men fail in life.
