Integral Understanding

  • Sri Aurobindo's position is that the world is an integrated existence. He calls His yoga Integral Yoga.
  • As in an automatic machine where all functions are interrelated, the world, the universe, and the human life are interrelated. It means each part is directly or indirectly related to all the other parts. If this is true, to understand any one process in terms of every other process can be called integral understanding.
  • For instance, understanding is the formation of thought with respect to the object.

Integral Yoga Institutionalizes Mother's Values

Life is wider than the society, family, culture, and such other groupings. History is a series of events. Man's existence becomes history after he has lived long enough worthily. Civilisation and culture are its higher versions, as an end result of further longer living. For our purposes civilisation is organisation and culture is institution. Civilisation rises to culture when the values of life are integrated with its living. I call this institutionalising.

Inversion of Cause and Effect

The inversion of cause and effect is important in the spiritualist answering the materialist. Such inversions are common in life. If I help another and he returns another service I had not known he was capable of, it can be argued that in anticipation of that help, which I never knew of, I had helped him. We must find an example in the material event for such inversion.

Jim Collins Formula

  • Those who accomplish, accomplish but do not follow any formula. It means accomplishments are unconscious.
  • Hence the existence of several proverbs that unfailing accomplishment is not around the corner.

The capacity to accomplish rises with increasing skills, industry, energy, determination, value, subtle perseverance, but nowhere in the world is there a knowledge that guarantees it.

Up to 99% or even 99.99% is within the range of human potential, not 100%.

Last Link is the Missing Link

  • Those who seriously try to take to consecration are thwarted by a thought that defies consecration.
  • One has to start with the mind, that is, thought.
  • What do we do when the thought defies the effort?
  • Each time mankind came to a halt, it sought fresh knowledge.
  • We do not have that difficulty as Sri Aurobindo has already given us all the knowledge needed. Then we must see what is missing.
  • That which defies consecration can be anything.

Levels of Consciousness

  • All present human achievements are those of the Mind. It is an effort from below.
  • Mother says when He was here, the adverse forces were under control, nothing emerged on the surface and She was able to work.

Life – Moksha – Sri Aravindam

God means traditionally one who grants our prayers. Only those temples that answer to this description are popular. This is an important aspect of worship but not in philosophy or yoga. The Life Divine was mainly addressed to the European intellect to give an outline or sketch of a new human discovery of the eternal godhead. The result was like the book of Copernicus on his system read by one whose ocular evidence was that the sun goes around the earth. The Realities The Life Divine tries to describe are in a plane of Mind that Man does not know of.

Links Between the High and the Low

  • Spiritual evolution takes place by mind awakening to the Spirit and rising to the Supermind, filling all the members of the being in all the three planes. It is a smooth process that takes place gradually.
  • The smooth and gradual process can abruptly take a sudden quick turn.

Matter is figured self-representation

  • Cosmos is the figured Self-representation of the Absolute to its own Consciousness.
  • Man's life is the socially figured self-representation of his own Self to his own Consciousness.
  • As universe is to Him, his own life is to Man, a self-creation.
  • Matter, Mind and Life are Brahman in this way.
  • The last paragraph on page 239 in The Life Divine defines Matter as such.
  • Knowing that Matter is Sachchidananda presented to God's mental perception will enable us to know that our life is our own creation.

Matter is greater than Spirit

  • Sat is in Timelessness.
  • Sat creates Matter in Time, the potentials that are there in Timelessness.
  • Spirit that is in Timelessness is greater than Matter in Time.
  • Sat has a third poise of simultaneity.
  • When life and mind and Supermind evolve out of Matter, Matter in Time moves to Matter in simultaneous integrality of Time and Timelessness.
  • Matter in simultaneity is greater than Spirit in Timelessness.
  • The ordinary man is a householder.
  • The saint in Timelessness is superior to the householder in
