Conception-Perception-Sensation

31-12-14
Conception – Perception – Sensation
The body cannot wait to act if it understands, says The Divine Mother. To the body consciousness, action is to understand. The Mind of the Body understands by action. Mind conceives, emotions perceive, the body senses. The Self in all is the Mind, all in the Self is emotion, the Self in each as individuality is the body. These are the triune supramental life of the Divine Soul, the God in the ascent. The intelligence of the Mind fashions a reasonable argument. This argument is a power when the sensation of the body understands. It is a power that acts instantaneously. Bennet, for all his bitter sarcasm, is an obliging British husband. Mrs. Bennet for all her pushy forward aggressiveness is an obedient English wife of the 18th century. Life Responds to those who respect her rules. In acting according to the over-jealous wife, Mr. Bennet falls in the eyes of life and his first visit is infructuous. It is against the rule of accomplishment. She again activates herself in an unfeminine urge when Bingley revisits Netherfield. Now he acts as a husband. Life wishing to respond to Mr. Bennet commissions Darcy to act. He acts as a lover and more so as a gentleman. His primary impulse is that of a gentleman and the secondary motive is that of the lover. In the first instance the apparent argument is a rich man is to be respected even if it is to bypass social etiquette. It is not a valid argument and cannot acquire power to accomplish itself. For us to be able to see the argument becoming a power of accomplishment in all concerned and in Life is an exercise in knowing the process of accomplishment. Accomplishments are partial or full. Mr. Bennet visiting Bingley is an accomplishment of his wife’s wishes. Bingley not returning to Netherfield is an act of accomplishment of his own submission. The rules of life or its components are the same whether the accomplishment is of the whole or the part, infinite or infinitesimal. Knowing that both are the same is to know the unknowable. Jane Austen conceives of the consummate joy of fulfilled love as One and its innumerable expressions as Many. The plot is in the surface mind where we know the story. The subliminal reveals the universality of the story’s emotions. It is only in the Supreme Truth – Consciousness, the Individual, the individual characters as well as the individual events, emerge as force of life the story is depicting. It is in that context Mr. Collins is in form. It is there the innate goodness of Charlotte emerges as the power of matrimony at the age of twenty seven with a further distant promise of Longbourn. The fire of Mr. Collins emerges from the education of the first generation, the independence from the comfortable income suddenly presenting itself to him.Characteristically the eloquence is the direct contribution of the solid material property in the offing. Seen thus, there is no wonder that his proposal has been celebrated in the field of fictional literature. We do see the ‘argument’ of Mr. Collins, becoming the power of understanding in the body of Miss Lucas, its suddenness being the characteristic stamp of the action of the physical consciousness. The argument is in the gross physical plane of the surface Mind. Its completion is in the occult causal plane of the subliminal. It has to mature through the emotional perceptions of the subtle inner Mind. This progress of Mr. Collins opens the way in the universal plane of life to a similar movement in Mr. Bennet later in the story.Lady Arabella comes to recognize Dear Mary through a faint and a painfully prolonged process of reversal with Dr. Thorne and as well as Mary. The further dimension of reversal here is a circuitous, cumbersome process to which the story does justice. The awakening of Mr. Bennet and Darcy is positive in nature. Arabella awakens to wealth negatively revealing the deeper mercenary nature of the ducal family of De Courcey. To get the fullness of the flavor of this process one has to consider the fullness of the process of Consecration. Consecration of an act implies an idea around which the act has taken shape. It is an axiom of spirituality that acts mature in Silence. Our words are NOT in Silence as they are.
Our consecration being in words is accompanied by all the characteristics of the word. The word is an articulated sound in the Mind. All the faculties of Mind are simultaneously in action, overtly or covertly.Expectation is the most prominent of them which is ever present and is irresistible. Until the irresistibility is overcome, expectation will be alive. Normally we try to deny the expectation expression. The one sure result is it grows in vehemence under the surface only to appear as Napoleon on the other side of veterans in time. Not that it cannot be effectively denied. We see in Sri Aurobindo’s example of the mental control of a sannyasi breaking at the bathing ghat, the power of the suppressed energy and its reality. It can only be transformed. Transformation is preceded by surrender. Surrender is surrender of being, consciousness, force and delight. In practice a beginning has to be made with delight but when the being too is surrendered, the course has to completed by traversing the path again. In this journey we meet with the impulses of expectation, doubt, thinking and all the twenty seven members of the list. The parts are surrendered in the gross physical plane. The whole can be surrendered only in the subtle plane. The subtle aspects require a subtle consecration for them to be given up. Man, when he does it successfully, does it by moving to a greater depth with determination as Mr. Bennet did. Deep meditation, constant remembrance are of that character. Its success is a great achievement, but initially it will be only temporary and confined to one occasion.
Good will, inner calm, receptivity, do have the innate capacity to receive the argument as the power of accomplishment. The only case that comes to Mind is Charlotte whose efforts to relieve Elizabeth were of such good will inherently capable of receptivity. Darcy’s receptivity is to the intensity of the force the abuse carried. It is a rewarding experience to see in the cultured receptivity of Mrs. Gardiner that Darcy has received. Culture requires generations to gather for this reason. Her restraint is receptivity.Mother saw the great receptivity of Kennedy as well as the unsophisticated Khrushchev.Kennedy lost his life as he was in an atmosphere of hypocrisy. Khrushchev lost his post as he had no such atmosphere to overcome. Good will,Sincerity, gratitude, Self-giving do open the body consciousness straight, if not instantaneously. The thrill of the body indicates that. Ettie Shafter in Valley of Fear, Douglas’ response to her have that totality at first sight. His own impossible work also shows that energy and some power. Ettie is great in her totality of receptivity. That very day she was cleared by the Boss. The complete removal of Baldwin is a direct echo of the completeness of acceptance of Douglas as well as Ettie. Of course, the process can be traced through the substance making it a full spiritual realisation. The Process as described in ‘The Man in the Universe’ is a process of involution and evolution. Even that will serve us fully, if we can trace it through it.Hearing, listening, understanding, appreciating, accepting, assimilating and finally absorbing takes place in Man over months or years. It is a process of Time. Openness and receptivity moves Time to Timelessness making the act possible once.Raising it to Simultaneous Integrality of Time–Eternity as well as Timeless Eternal, steadies the accomplishment. It is to move into the Supramental consciousness.
