Inspiring Visions
To one in a creative moment, all sights are visions, all visions are creative. The progress of civilisation collecting in the society centred in an awakened individual makes the movement a creative moment, gives him an inspiring vision of the Impossible. Infinity trying to emerge in the finite makes it creative. The higher taking birth in the lower is the stamp of social creativity. The outer becoming the inner and the lower rising to become the higher make for instantaneous miraculousness. The inspiring vision of the creative moment is the social version of that great Spiritual revelation.
In such moments, Pemberley descends on Longbourn and Longbourn descends on the Parsonage. One makes the other possible. Such moments can be individual or collective or both. They can be partial, whole or even integral. FDR, Churchill, Gandhiji, and Steve Jobs are the distant early symptoms of what was to come. Indian Freedom was almost an invisible revolution in the subtle plane of the worldwide ocean. In my view, the Green Revolution is the first seed that sprouted. ICPF was an overt expression. Internet has come to stay as a newer plane of greater creativity. It is all creativity in coordination of an ocean of facts. When the online World University comes into existence, it will be giving the educational voice to the emerging new society. Memory that is replaced by understanding will see understanding giving way to vision, a vision that is all knowledge.
The inspired Individual has that vision in his creative moment. A recent market result of such a phenomenon the world saw was the performance of intuition in the technology the consumer longed for. The Online University will at its height of consummation offer that vision of Life as well as vision of Knowledge to the students. As the organisational infrastructure awaits the Online adventure, the subtle ripeness of the curious society awaits its advent. Internet is the trade that will create the software coin of wholesome higher knowledge. Trade was creative of money that was wealth. It was a wealth of human relationship that expressed trust. Internet will be creative of the software of the Soul whose coin will be human social individuality.
Progress is abridgement of Time, raising the plane of action, a conversion of events into evolutionary moments where increasing quantity results in higher quality. It results in a higher culture. Culture is a way of life where values play the role of personal skills. Inspiration raises the human physical effort to exertion of values that express rising levels of culture by the innate dynamism of forward movement. To capture the energy in action in the formulation of thought is Mental Progress. To reverse by an inversion Selfish Living into one of Self-giving in the collective organisation and the least of personal attitudes is a progress the 21st century awaits. What reared sporadically for ages all over the world in its purple spots will then be appreciated as an acceptable way of global life united under one government. VISA has acquired the eminence of being its ubiquitous currency.
The world is ready from below in terms of awareness and energy to enjoy the new attitude. Heaven is only anxious to descend on such a world. This is the HOUR when the call will bring down the Grace. It is a human call of fullness in a mature moment. It is the Divine Grace of Supramental compassion that is its Love.
Wisdom of the past and vision of the future
Age was the index and symbol of wisdom all over the world. A young American asked an inappropriate question to Khrushchev while on an American tour. He was incensed and said the boy was wrong because of his age. He was as old as his father. Age was identified with wisdom as memory of experience was then considered as knowledge. Dictionaries, directories and encyclopedias have now taken on that role. Still age is not without the flavour of a wise poise. Facts are the first level of knowledge. Coordination of facts that results in thought is the next level. Coordination is not merely physical, but Mental, in the sense Mind coordinates the facts in its purview around a centre of understanding. That centre is the subconscious essence of experience called wisdom. When history came to be written it struck the historians that the history of a nation or a period is after all the history of kings. So it was written for centuries. History of stable security appeared as the history of kings. Age and experience equips Man with that capacity that is not entirely on the surface memory. The surface knows all the facts present. For a conscious observer, those facts have come together in a certain fashion, shaped the course of events up till now and proceeded to the future choosing to change its course as the intensity of the flow demands. One direct result is the generation of thoughts and creation of ideas. The knowledge of this emerging pattern can now enable us to hand over that function of thought formation to a software.
The process of thought formation begins with the physical facts about objects. Even at the physical level there are several levels of coordination beginning with two and moving to all facts. Agriculture was born when the relation between the seasons and fruit setting was observed. To discover ALL the coordinated facts that generated the thought of agriculture is now possible as we have the computer. Originally it was a subconscious faculty. Even after founding agriculture, the operation of it remained in the hands of the village elders. Such subconscious coordination can be seen at the level of functioning as well as its becoming creative. It is true the ideas were given birth by the presence of facts that are forces and the evolutionary pressure they generate. It is more true that there is always a descent of ideas by the fact that the Mind exercises itself in the context of these facts. If this observation has any truth of valid evolving thought, it is obvious how much is there in the modern context to create ideas and thoughts consciously. The knowledge that the coming generations can be relieved of this onerous physical memory is another inspiring vision of the idealist.
Historians have said that democracies are born in small areas usually bounded by hills or seas while extensive areas give rise to empires. The truth in this observation can travel all over history and test its validity. If valid, one great fundamental aspect of the growth of society comes into being. The coming generations are relieved of this mental burden in the subtle plane by virtue of the discovery of this principle. Making it a conscious computer programme, the human energies are free for future conquest of greater ideas. Online education has already relieved the aspirant of the memory of the physical infrastructures of building, travel, time, textbooks, etc. Its main contribution is the relief administered to the student’s Mind of the burden of memory. Thinking is the distant successor to memory, distant by a few centuries. It is obvious that too can be replaced by the live presence of the computer. Thus travel of education that is on foot today can directly enter into air travel by the service of computer especially when it makes itself available for the whole world. Quantity increases Quality.
All great developments in the post war period came from USA. The Academy was born in USA. The World University was conceived of by the Academy in its early decades. Progress is in proportion of education. Welfare is determined by the capacity to produce. Well being of society is the individual’s interest in others. The invisible gift of the post-war decades to humanity is the birth of the Individual. The post war prosperity taken note of by UNDP is the direct result of Man recognizing himself as an individual. It was actively sponsored by FDR. Abolition of colonialism was the major political victory of the emerging individual who was still invisible.
The social aberration of the hippie movement was the effort of that individual to be born. It spread all over the world. The values for which the movement stood have come to stay. American leadership is of value because she is militarily strong, wealthy, and commands political credibility. All this the USA had before the war too but she was not recognized as a leader of the world, as she has been since 1945. USA has increasingly come to respect the individuality of the world that was endeavouring to be born. This attitude of hers brought her more into the vanguard of the world movement.
Material prosperity is a direct expression of psychological self-awareness, the birth pang of the Individual.
It is more seen in the freedom of women, intransigence of labor, the utter independence of teenagers from the parents. Whatever Man seems to seek in his outer life, his inner personality loves to unite with others inwardly – a movement of love. Lessening of negative human propensities is being documented year after year. Contrary to all perceptions of the press, as well as political views, the world of today is a better place to live in than it was around the time of the war. What is happening or has happened is an unconscious achievement. It is less than the minimum when MAN is conscious and exerts himself to organise progress.
The Academy has the unique privilege of being the spearhead of the aspiring humanity. The possibilities that come into one’s view are what I call : INSPIRING VISIONS.
The Rishis discovered the existence of an eternal behind the transitory life. Sri Aurobindo characterized that development as of greater significance than the discoveries of Newton and other great scientists. Carbon dating, string theory, Big Bang, Black holes, may or may not have any valid truth in them, but the
Emerging Individual
has the evolutionary truth of the Spirit and the historical truth of stability and prosperity. Is it not evident that he who so emerges necessarily lays these foundations for him to stand on?
